Commissioned for a private residence in California, this project was developed in response to the client's interest in incorporating an element of Mesopotamian heritage into the interior architecture of the home. The Lion of Babylon was selected as the central motif and reinterpreted as a contemporary relief mural designed specifically for the space.

Rather than reproducing the ancient artifact directly, the project sought to translate its visual presence into an architectural artwork integrated with the surrounding environment. The process began with the development of a custom material system and a series of experimental units used to explore texture, surface treatment, carving techniques, and color possibilities. Each component was individually cast, carved, and refined by hand before becoming part of the larger composition.

Constructed from handcrafted modular elements, the mural combines sculptural relief with architectural installation. Surface variations, irregular edges, and subtle imperfections were intentionally preserved as part of the visual language of the work, reinforcing its handcrafted character while evoking the qualities of ancient masonry and weathered historical structures.

Following the sculptural phase, multiple color studies were explored before the final palette was selected. The completed mural was then assembled and installed on site as a permanent feature within the residence, transforming a historic symbol into a contemporary interior artwork that connects sculpture, material experimentation, and architectural space.
